Career

During her childhood, Finlay was partly raised in India. She was also a British resident in Hong Kong. She claims that she became obsessed with colour as a child, when her father took her to Chartres cathedral and said that no longer able to make a particular blue in the glass in one of the windows. Finlay took up journalism, and became Arts editor at the "South China Morning Post", before she left her job to become a writer. She also worked in radio presenting.
