Kilwillie

Angus Errol Sharon, Earl Kilwillie is a fictional character in the TV series Monarch of the Glen. Kilwillie is played by Egyptian-born British actor Julian Fellowes.

Owner of Kilwillie Castle, Kilwillie is best known for being Hector Naismith MacDonald's arch rival, but at the same time - best friend. Kilwillie and Hector are always getting into mischief. They were imprisoned for illegally fishing in the loch, arrested for being in a rubbish dump and nearly killed an old man when trying to be the golf club president. After Hector's death Kilwillie proposed to Hector's widow Molly, she accepted, but then declined, ensuring that Kilwillie remained alone with only his loyal butler Badger for company. After Molly's stepson Paul Bowman arrived in Glenbogle, Molly felt she had to get away. Andrew Booth decided to go with her, and despite his recent rejection, Kilwillie gave Molly some tickets to travel all round the world. However in the end, Molly never left, and Kilwillie's tickets went to Archie and Lexie, who used them for their honeymoon.

At the beginning of series five, Kilwillie offered Hector's son Archie a job as a restaurant manager in New York, but because Glenbogle House was partially blown up, Archie was forced to decline. In the same episode Kilwillie decided to leave Glenbogle to travel the world. Leaving Kilwillie Castle to his sister Lady Dorothy. Kilwillie returned to the glen in series seven with a pushy American PA called Edith. Molly found that Edith was just Kilwillie's PA so she could marry him, divorce him, and using the money from the divorce for her and her husband. Kilwillie sacked Edith and returned to his castle alone. Kilwillie returned again in the last ever episode and asked for Molly's hand in marriage, she accepted, however after an emotional speech by Golly at the anniversary of Hector's death at the church, Molly found she loved Golly, leaving Kilwillie for the second time.

Kilwillie is loosely based on the character of Hugh Cameron of Kilwillie, the best friend of Donald MacDonald in the Compton MacKenzie novels that inspired the series.
