Green-baiting

Green-baiting

The term green-baiting refers to speaking, publishing or expressing thoughts, attitudes or philosophies that are sure to infuriate people who consider themselves part of the green (ecological) movement.

History

The term green-baiting is derived from the expression bear-baiting. Bear-baiting was considered a sport in England from the 1500s up to the nineteenth century. In bear-baiting a bear was tied to a pole and then savage dogs were unleashed and proceeded to attack it, often resulting in the bear's death. Metaphorically the term green-baiting alludes to the figurative tying up of cherished green prejudices, whereby the implacable dogs of reason and analysis are then unleashed. Green-baiting provides entertainment by the action of the greens more so than the actions of the dogs.

The use and enjoyment of green-baiting has become necessary in modern times as the the adoption of green philosophies stopped being based on sound scientific and engineering principles and instead became a religious and political movement. Initially the green movement was called conservation and was based on sound principles of animal husbandry and the need to greatly reduce both air and water pollution. In the modern times, after the year 2000, the green movement has become far more a secular religion, demanding irrational adoption and fealty while exhibiting almost maniacal hostility to any person or organization who challenges the often irrational belief systems exhibited by the green movement. Since the advocates of many green philosophies are not open to reason they then must be subject to ridicule. Hence the invention of green-baiting.

Purpose

Usage of the green-baiting is intended to bring out the irrationality of the green movement, thereby discrediting it.

Usage

The statements useful for green-baiting are essentially limitless. Anything that questions the social good of electric cars, solar power, wind power, compact fluorescent lights, CO2 emissions, carbon credits or a host of other subjects will bring the true green into a frothing irrational seizure that will demonstrate the complete lack of reason behind their worldview. Indeed, since many greens are really "watermelon communists" that is, authoritarian elitists that are green on the outside and red on the inside, any promotion or respect for capitalism will also green-bait them. Other good subjects to promote green ire are free trade, the benefits of child labour and legitimacy of prostitution as a job choice.

It should be noted that the person doing the green-baiting need not even believe any of the positions that are expressed. The sport is getting a rise of of the self-righteous and enjoying their futility and exasperation.
