Geokaun Mountain and Fogher Cliffs

Geokaun Mountain is the highest mountain on Valentia Island and the Fogher Cliffs are seacliffs of 600ft on its northern face. It has 360 degree panoramic views of Valentia, the Atlantic Ocean and South West Kerry.

The attraction includes a 1200 metre roadway/pathway from the public road to the peak, with a particularly spectacular viewing deck at Fogher Cliffs. There are 4 parking areas at different elevations to suit all levels of physical ability.

There are 4 viewing areas with 36 information plaques on topics of social, environmental and historical interest in the area. These plaques include information on subjects such as:

*The Skellig Islands
*The first transatlantic telegraph cable
*Bray Tower
*St Brendans Well
*The Knight of Kerry
*Local birdlife
*Seine fishing
*The Lighthouse
*The Tetrapod trackwayAmongst others

There are views of the Skellig Islands, Dingle Peninsula, The Blasket Islands, Beginish Island, Caherciveen, Portmagee and the McGillycuddy Reeks.

Four of Ireland's 6 highest mountains can be seen from here- Brandon, Carrauntoohil, Beenkeragh and Caher. Picnic areas are also provided.
