The 1991 season was the Lions first playoff appearance since 1983. The Lions were shocked by an accident that occurred in a game against the Los Angeles Rams. Offensive Lineman Mike Utley suffered a blow to the head and was paralyzed. Two years after drafting Barry Sanders, the Lions drafted another offensive superstar in Herman Moore. Another highlight of the season would be the emergence of journeyman quarterback Erik Kramer, who would replace an injured Rodney Peete and get the Lions into the postseason. The Lions season would begin and end in RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. In week 1, the Lions were trounced by the Redskins 45-0. Despite the poor start, the Lions rebounded to win the NFC Central and appear in the NFC Championship Game. Once more, the Lions would face off against the Redskins and emerge on the losing side.
