Plot summary

This is told mostly in essay format, as it is to be sent to a comitee to put it in a time capsul, to be opened in 100 years

Thirteen year old Gratuity "Tip" Tucci, when her mom is abducted by aliens, has to survive on her own. Suddenly, the aliens, called Boov, arrive and take over the Earth, which they call Smekland after their leader, Captain Smek. Christmas, the day of the Boovs' arrival on Earth, is renamed "Smekday".

On "Moving Day", all humans are required to relocate to Florida. Tip decides to drive instead of being transported by the Boov. She soon makes friends with a Boov, J.Lo, who is actually friendly. They journey across the United States running into all kinds of problems and adventure including the fact that J.Lo accidentally summoned the Gorg, even eviler aliens. It is up to Tip and J.Lo to find Tip's mom and save the world.

Pop culture

Adam Rex, the author, has created a website, smekday.com, on which he posted what he says is a television special to help humans understand the invasion, created by the Boov. It explains all the changes in the calendar (simplified to three months: Boovember-329, Humanuary-5, and Mitch-31), holidays, and other basic facts.
