Play for P.I.N.K.

Play for P.I.N.K. (Prevention, Immediate diagnosis, New technology, Knowledge) or (PFP) was started in 1990 by a group of women who were saddened when one of their friends was diagnosed with breast cancer. One of the founders suggested a golf tournament, with all money raised going to breast cancer research.

In 1996, due to the increased interest and the desire to reach more people, the organization decided to change the tournament format and reached out to individual country clubs throughout the New York tri-state area: New York, New Jersey and Connecticut. In the first year PFP held golf tournaments at six clubs in New Jersey and raised $77,000 for breast cancer research. Participation has grown to more than 140 clubs in 23 states across the country, with an estimated 15,000 participants annually.

In November 2007, Play for P.I.N.K. presented The Breast Cancer Research Foundation with a check for $2,750,000 bringing PFP’s total contribution to $12.75 million dollars. Due to the organization's success, the Foundation secured Bloomberg as Title Sponsor of Play for P.I.N.K. Bloomberg underwrote the expansion of the tournament and all expenses, thus allowing all monies raised by PFP to go directly to breast cancer research.

Play for P.I.N.K. expanded its concept to include tournaments for tennis, men, swimming and cards.
