American intelligence officials asserted that a precision missile had hit a vehicle carrying Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Osmani in mid-December 2006. A Taliban spokesman named Qari Yousef Ahmadi asserted that the airstrike in fact killed Abdul Zahir and three other fighters.
