HMS Melpomene

Six ships of the Royal Navy have been named HMS "Melpomene" after the Muse of Tragedy in ancient Greek mythology.

# HMS "Melpomene" was a fifth rate frigate captured in 1794 and sold in 1815 after service in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars.
# HMS "Melpomene" was a frigate built in 1857 and sold in 1875 after becoming obsolete.
# HMS "Melpomene" was a light cruiser built in 1888 and sold in 1905.
# HMS "Melpomene" was a cruiser renamed from HMS "Indefatigable" in 1910 and sold in 1913.
# HMS "Melpomene" was a destroyer built in 1915 which was broken up in 1921 after service in the First World War.
# HMS "Melpomene" was an ex–monitor HMS M15 renamed in 1922 after being converted to a minelayer. She was further renamed HMS "Menelaus" in 1940.
