Angel L. Reyes, III

Angel L. Reyes, III (born February 18, 1966) is a Dallas, Texas based attorney and managing partner for the law firm, Heygood, Orr, Reyes, Pearson & Bartolomei. Angel is a frequent guest on TV and radio shows, with appearances on CNN’s Lou Dobbs Tonight, CBS-KTVT, talk radio stations throughout the country; as well as a featured guest on Court TV’s national satellite radio channel.

Trials

Mr. Reyes has been extensively interviewed by various television stations, radio stations, magazines and newspapers for his involvement in the well-publicized lawsuit against Swift and Co., a meatpacking company based in Greeley, CO. Angel Reyes and his law firm represented 18 former employees of the Swift meatpacking plant in Cactus in a lawsuit for $23 million, alleging the meatpacking company conspired to keep wages down by hiring illegal immigrants. The Cactus, Texas plant was one of six facilities raided in a multi-state federal investigation which led to nearly 1,300 employees’ arrest and temporarily closed Swift’s operations. The case is currently pending.

In June, 2006, the nation’s first trial involving a Duragesic pain patch (a form of the narcotic painkiller, fentanyl). A jury in the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Florida, West Palm Beach Division, sided in favor of Heygood, Orr, Reyes, Pearson & Bartolomei's client Lee Hendelson, and awarded him $5.5 million for the death of his son, Adam Hendelson. In 1994, the FDA launched an investigation into defective Duragesic patches and deaths related to the use of the Duragesic patch. Those concerns led the FDA to issue official safety warnings about the use of fentanyl transdermal patches like the Duragesic Patch. Duragesic Pain Patches have been known to leak fentanyl gel. Also, many individuals absorb fentanyl at a higher rate than others. If either of these occurs, injury or death is possible. "We've seen far too many cases like this," stated Angel Reyes. He continued "For some time, there was compelling evidence of the dangers of this drug, and those signs were ignored by the manufacturer. That indifference ultimately led to the death of this young man, and we can only hope that this verdict sends a message to the manufacturer."

Background/Career

Angel Reyes, III was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on February 18, 1966. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Hispanic American Leadership Organization. He received his law degree from the prestigious University of Michigan Law School, where he was an associate and contributing editor of the Michigan Journal of International Law, recipient of the Best Oral Advocacy Award and a member of Barristers. Mr. Reyes began his law career at Carter, Ledyard & Milburn in New York City, where his areas of practice included corporate finance, corporate securities and bonds. In 1992, Mr. Reyes moved to Dallas and became President and Founder of Reyes & Associates, P.C., with offices in Dallas, Austin and San Antonio. The firm was staffed with 40 employees, and concentrated its practice on automobile accidents; nursing home negligence; medical malpractice; dangerous and defective products and insurance bad faith cases. In 2000, Angel formed and became Managing Partner of the firm Heygood, Orr & Reyes. The firm specialized in Complex Contract and Insurance Litigation; Complex Pharmaceutical Litigation; Business Tort Contract and Insurance Litigation; Business Tort Litigation; Rollover and Roof Crush Litigation; Nursing Home and Medical Negligence Litigation; Medical Device Implant Litigation; Oil and Gas Royalty Litigation; Officers and Directors Shareholder Litigation; Insurance Fraud Litigation; Securities Fraud Litigation; Trucking Litigation; and Crashworthiness Litigation. In 2004, Mr. Reyes and his partners formed Heygood, Orr, Reyes & Bartolomei, which became Heygood, Orr, Reyes, Pearson & Bartolomei, a civil litigation law firm. The firm is a trial law firm, having tried over 250 cases to a jury verdict, including personal injury and business litigation cases. The firm is rated AV, by the law firm rating service, Martindale Hubbell.
