MessHall is an experimental engagement space located in the Roger's Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side.

On any given day MessHall holds a variety of activities ranging from skill sharing workshops to, film screening, music appreciation gatherings, swap meets, "brunchlucks," art & historical exhibitions, readings, lectures, and more. MessHall also hosts its own library.

Founders and Keyholders

The space was founded in the summer of 2003 by Salem Collo-Julin, Marc Fischer, & Brett Bloom (Temporary Services); Marianne Fairbanks & Jane Palmer (JAM); Ava Bromberg (In the Field); Sam Gould (Red 76); and Dan S. Wang. Since its inception others have joined on as MessHall "key-holders," including: Mike Wolf (Network of Casual Art); Erik Newman (www.hhuman.com), Diana Berek (The Chicago Labor and Arts Festival), Claire Pentecost (www.clairepentecost.org), Britt Shawver (Housing Opportunities for Women) and Natasha Wheat.

The space operates on a unique economic basis. MessHall pays $1 (US Dollars) per year to rent its storefront location upon the agreement that no money will exchange hands within the space. Keyholders share expenses for utilities.
