Eastar Jet will be a scheduled airline headquartered in Seoul near Gimpo Airport. It is part of the KIC Group. (New Name ; Eastar Group). The airline will provide short and long-haul services mostly to leisure destinations from its three bases at Seoul, Cheongju and Jeju. The airline will also serve Gunsan and Busan.

History

Eastar Jet is a new LCC airline in its formative stages. It's being organized to take advantage of a specific gap in the short-haul domestic travel market. The gap exists in low cost services out of Seoul, Ulsan, Jeju, Cheongju, and Gunsan.

The gap in the availability of low cost service in and out of the Seoul (Gimpo International) hub coupled with the demand for passenger travel on selected routes from Seoul indicates that a new entrant airline could be expected to capture a significant portion of current air travel business at that hub.

EastarJet was founded October 2007 in Seoul, and the expected inaugural date is October 2008. The main share hoder of Eastar Jet is the Eastar group in South Korea.

Over the years, the management of Eastar Jet has carefully and regularly monitored the air transport industry to understand market trends and to identify future needs. Airline industry in Korean is not an exception from this global demand.

However, LCC in the Korean market is yet to come: Two legacy (Korean Air and Asiana Airlines) and two regional airlines (Jeju Air and Hansung Airlines). Eastar Jet will be the first true LCC entering Korean market

* Daily services between Seoul (RKSS) and Jeju (RKPC), Gunsan (RKJK) will begin in October 2008.

Future plans

The airline is planning to fly to Southeast Asia, as well as other destinations in China and Japan.

Eastar Jet's Gunsan hub is one of the airports in Asia being considered a secondary hub for a Southern Asian affliate, Eastar Jet for one-stop flights to Southeast Asia.

Fleet

The Eastar Jet fleet includes the following aircraft (as of 27 September 2008):

Eastar Jet chose a single aircraft type fleet which allows for greater efficiency in maintenance and support of the low-cost structure. And when it comes to selecting this single aircraft fleet, Eastar Jet has opted for new generation Boeing 737-700/800 with winglet, taking a cue from the successful single operating type model pioneered by Air Asia. Boeing 737NG will allow for safe, comfortable and efficient flying and are ideally suited for short to medium haul flights in Korean conditions. The first deliveries of 737-600 aircraft began in September 2008, and by November 2008, the second 737-800 aircraft will be delivered. Eastar Jet's future aircraft orders consist of 737-800 models. The airline plans to have a fleet of 15 aircraft by the end of 2013.
