Discovered on May 26, 1993 by S. Otomo it was given the provisional designation 1993 KQ. It was later renamed "Minoruoda" after Minoru Oda, a former director general of the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science. ["MPC 50250" Minor Planet Center]
