Its seat is the town of Żukowo, which lies approximately convert|11|km|mi|0 east of Kartuzy and convert|18|km|mi|0|abbr=on west of the regional capital Gdańsk.

The gmina covers an area of convert|163.95|km2|sqmi|1, and as of 2006 its total population is 25,405 (out of which the population of Żukowo amounts to 6,302, and the population of the rural part of the gmina is 19,103).
