- Biggar High School
Biggar High School (Local education authority: South Lanarkshire) is a
secondary school inBiggar ,Lanarkshire . It is a mixed school of non denominational religion.The school has two playing fields where the new school is being built. There are approximately 724 pupils (age range 11-18) with a teaching staff of around 60. The Head of establishment is Mr. David Chalmers. There are 6 Years in Biggar High, S1-S6. Pupils have the choice to leave school in S5 if they wish. Years groups are split usual into two classes for each year in each house, example: S3, Burns, Class 3 = 3B3. There are two school captains and two captains for each house, in each class there is elected a person that tells the year head if the pupils want anything changed.
School Houses
There are 3 school houses, they were changed recently due to one of the guidance staff leaving, so that the three remaining guidance staff only had one house to deal with each.The Current Houses are: Burns, Anderson and Wallace; the previous houses were: Medwyn, Clyde, Lowther and Tinto.
Enterprising School 2007
In early 2007 Biggar High won the Most Enterprising School in Scotland award.
Events
The school holds a number of annual events.
Among these are two charity days every year, in which the students are given the option to dress up, and various fund raising activities are to be found around the school.
There is also the school "Rock Night". An annual rock concert, in which any student (and even recently ex-student) band can perform a couple of songs of their choosing.
Also, there are the Easter and Christmas services, held at the local church. These are held on the last day of term, and the students are taken out of classes and up to the church. Those who belong to religions other than Christianity do not have to attend, although they are welcome.
