Beatrix of Bavaria

Beatrix of Bavaria

Beatrix of Bavaria (1344 – December 25 1359) was Queen of Sweden by marriage to King Eric XII, who co-ruled with his father, King Magnus IV.

Beatrix was the daughter of the Louis IV of Bavaria, King of Germany and Holy Roman Emperor, and Margaret of Holland. In 1356 she was married to Prince Eric of Sweden, who led a rebellion against his father and co-reigned the country, thereby making Beatrix queen consort jointly with her mother-in-law, Blanka of Namur. She was joint queen consort of Sweden for three years.

Both Beatrix and her husband Eric died in 1359. They were rumored to have been poisoned by Eric's mother, Queen Blanka. Now it is believed that her husband died of the plague, and that Beatrix, who gave birth to a stillborn son, Eric, that same year, did also.
