Sphinganine kinase

Sphinganine kinase

In enzymology, a sphinganine kinase (EC number|2.7.1.91) is an enzyme that catalyzes the chemical reaction

:ATP + sphinganine ightleftharpoons ADP + sphinganine 1-phosphate

Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are ATP and sphinganine, whereas its two products are ADP and sphinganine 1-phosphate.

This enzyme belongs to the family of transferases, specifically those transferring phosphorus-containing groups (phosphotransferases) with an alcohol group as acceptor. The systematic name of this enzyme class is ATP:sphinganine 1-phosphotransferase. Other names in common use include dihydrosphingosine kinase, dihydrosphingosine kinase (phosphorylating), and sphingosine kinase (phosphorylating). This enzyme participates in 3 metabolic pathways: sphingolipid metabolism, calcium signaling pathway, and vegf signaling pathway.
