Crookston is a village in Cherry County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 98 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Crookston is located at 42°55′39″N 100°45′9″W / 42.9275°N 100.7525°W / 42.9275; -100.7525 (42.927366, -100.752481)[3].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km2), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 98 people, 40 households, and 23 families residing in the village. The population density was 229.9 people per square mile (88.0/km²). There were 48 housing units at an average density of 112.6 per square mile (43.1/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.92% White, and 4.08% from two or more races.

There were 40 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 40.0% were married couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.5% were non-families. 27.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.45 and the average family size was 3.13.

In the village the population was spread out with 25.5% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 28.6% from 45 to 64, and 7.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 117.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.8 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $27,000, and the median income for a family was $25,833. Males had a median income of $25,000 versus $16,094 for females. The per capita income for the village was $13,945. There were 30.0% of families and 44.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 64.3% of under eighteens and 100.0% of those over 64.
