Greenwood is a village in Cass County, Nebraska, United States. The population was 544 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Greenwood is located at coor dms|40|57|41|N|96|26|29|W|city (40.961343, -96.441265)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 0.4 square miles (1.0 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 544 people, 215 households, and 153 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,406.8 people per square mile (538.6/km²). There were 231 housing units at an average density of 597.4/sq mi (228.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.06% White, 0.37% African American, 1.29% Native American, 0.55% Asian, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.10% of the population.

There were 215 households out of which 31.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.8% were married couples living together, 10.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.4% were non-families. 22.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.94.

In the village the population was spread out with 26.8% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 30.3% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 106.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 101.0 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $43,194, and the median income for a family was $47,500. Males had a median income of $35,417 versus $21,375 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,995. About 0.6% of families and 6.3% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.6% of those under age 18 and 3.2% of those age 65 or over.

ports and Leisure

Located along the Salt Creek and near the Platte River, the region surrounding the village has a lot to offer. Memphis State Recreation Area, Schramm Park State Recreation Area, Eugene T. Mahoney State Park, and Platte River State Park are all within a half hour.

Located close to the village is Nebraska Raceway Park, (formerly known as I-80 Speedway) a multiuse racing facility in Southeast Nebraska.
