Joliet is a town in Carbon County, Montana, United States. It is part of the Billings, Montana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 575 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Joliet is located at coor dms|45|29|4|N|108|58|17|W|city (45.484520, -108.971257)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²), all of it land.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 575 people, 258 households, and 170 families residing in the town. The population density was 2,014.8 people per square mile (765.5/km²). There were 278 housing units at an average density of 974.1/sq mi (370.1/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 97.04% White, 0.52% African American, 0.52% Native American, 0.87% Asian, 0.17% from other races, and 0.87% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.39% of the population.

There were 258 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples living together, 8.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.1% were non-families. 32.6% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.23 and the average family size was 2.80.

In the town the population was spread out with 23.1% under the age of 18, 6.1% from 18 to 24, 22.1% from 25 to 44, 26.8% from 45 to 64, and 21.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.3 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $24,167, and the median income for a family was $32,063. Males had a median income of $28,750 versus $19,500 for females. The per capita income for the town was $13,254. About 13.5% of families and 14.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.9% of those under age 18 and 6.6% of those age 65 or over.
