KenBuster

KenBuster

KenBuster is a GPS-enabled mobile device that can automatically pay congestion charge in real time, when entering London's congestion zone. It was intended to avoid paying a heavy penalty resulting from the delayed or neglected payment of congestion charge. This wireless payment tool was jokingly named after Ken Livingstone, mayor of London and the prime advocate of the congestion charge. How it works

1) The embedded GPS receiver detects the moment of your entry into the congestion charge zone.

2) The KenBuster takes £8 from whatever payment option you've chosen beforehand.

3) The KenBuster sends you a text message.

However, there are sceptical views about its economic sense. A subscriber has to pay £199 for infinite usage, or a £49.99 one-time charge then £8 per month on a 12-month contract. That's about the same you'd pay if you were fined three times for forgetting to pay the charge.
