John Ganzoni, 1st Baron Belstead

Francis John Childs Ganzoni, 1st Baron Belstead (19 January 1882 - 15 August 1958) was the son of Julius Charles Ganzoni and Mary Frances Childs. He married Gwendolen Gertrude Turner, daughter of Arthur Turner and Gertrude Ridley, on 31 May 1930 at Ipswich, Suffolk, England. He was the father of John Ganzoni, 2nd Baron Belstead.

He was educated at Tonbridge School and later graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, in 1906 with a Master of Arts (M.A.), in which year he was also admitted to Inner Temple, thus was entitled to practice as a Barrister-at-Law. He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, fighting in the First World War in 1914.

He was elected a Conservative Member of Parliament for Ipswich on 23 May1914 and served until the 1923 general election. He was invested as a Knight on 25 June 1921. He held the office of Chairman of the Private Bills Committee between 1923 and 1938. He held the office of Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Postmaster-General between 1924 and 1929.

He was again elected a Member of Parliament for Ipswich between 1924 and 1938. He was created a Baronet, of Ipswich, Suffolk on 22 March 1929. He was invested as a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (F.R.G.S.). He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Suffolk. He was created Baron Belstead, of Ipswich, Suffolk on 27 January 1938.
