Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music

The Tasmanian Conservatorium of Music forms part of the faculty of Arts at the University of Tasmania. It is a music training institution with courses and specializations in classical and contemporary music, music education, technology and composition and musical theatre.

The school offers a range of undergraduate degrees and postgraduate degrees including the MMus (research) and PhD. The school has a performance program through its various ensembles including the ARIA award nominated Southern Gospel Choir, the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, Conservatorium Chamber Soloists, The Conservatorium Big Band, The Conservatorium Concert Choir and the resident ensemble "iCon".

The school maintains a number of seasonal short-course schools including the Easter Jazz School, the Summer Rock School, the Winter String School, the Winter Voice School and the Australian International Summer Orchestral Institute. The school also offers community based program for pre-tertiary music students in The Young Conservatorium. The Conservatorium acts to administer the AMEB in Tasmania and has links with local educational and performance institutions including the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, IHOS Opera and ExitLeft Theatre.

Expansion and reforms

Since 2000, the Conservatorium has expanded to include the expansion into new areas of study such as Musical Theatre, Rock Studies and Time-based Multimedia to complement its already-established programs in Classical Music, Jazz and Music Education.
