Hanna-Barbera 's "Jonny Quest " animatedtelevision series from the 1960s. Debuting in 1986 as part of the "Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera" (it completed the fourth half hour of the Sunday line-up) syndication package, this new "Jonny Quest" series [ [http://web.archive.org/web/20051124024634/http://www.questenterprises.org/ CARTOON FILES MAGAZINE SPOTLIGHT ON: THE JONNY QUEST FILES] ] could be seen as the second season to a program that originally aired from 1964-1965 on ABC.ummary
By the mid-1980s, the edited episodes of the original "Jonny Quest" series (each episode was missing about five minutes of footage edited for time constraints and content) were part of "The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera". Thirteen episodes were produced in 1986 [ [http://www.bcdb.com/cartoons/Hanna-Barbera_Studios/D-F/The_Funtastic_World_of_Hanna-Barbera/Jonny_Quest/The_New_Jonny_Quest/index.html The New Jonny Quest Episode Guide] ] to accompany the originals in the "Funtastic World" programming block. These episodes were referred to simply as "Jonny Quest" on their title cards, and were noticeably less violent and more “kid-friendly” [ [http://www.80scartoons.net/toons/jonnyquest.html The animation is of slightly higher quality than the original, but their adventures seem a little more far-fetched than in the original series' run.] ] than the 1960s originals.
New characters
The 1980s "Quest" series introduced the new characters Hardrock, an ancient man made of stone, and a young girl named Jessie Bradshaw [ [http://web.archive.org/web/20051124024634/http://www.questenterprises.org/ In order to appeal to the increasing audience of young female viewers, Jessie Bradshaw - the daughter of a colleague of Dr. Quest's and absolutely no relation to Jessie Bannon of TRA fame - was quickly added to the line-up. The roster was completed half-way through the series when Hard Rock - a man made of living rock (don't ask me, man, I've got no idea...) - was thrown into the mix.] ] , the daughter of a family friend, as a counterpart for Jonny. Jessie would eventually be
retconned into Race Bannon's daughter in subsequent "Quest" stories. Hardrock did not return in any later versions of the program, without background alteration.Episode guide
