Tony Clarkin (born 1952-11-03 in Limerick City, Ireland) is an actor.He is the father of actress/writer and film producer Dina Clarkin, and father-in-law of actor/director Todd Carty. Tony has two grandchildren, James and Thomas.

Tony first appeared on stage at the age of four, in a production of "The Pirates of Penzance" at The City Theatre Limerick City.

Tony was educated at Rockwell College and was a prominent member of its drama club, playing such roles as Polonius in "Hamlet" and Becket in "Murder in the Cathedral". He later reprised these roles in the professional theatre.

During his time in Limerick City, Tony appeared in many roles from modern to Shakespeare at the College Players, where Richard Harris was also a member in earlier days. He also appeared in a number of productions on tour for Gemini Productions Theatre Company.

Among other roles, Tony has most famously provided the voice overs for the the award winning Puffs Tissues commercials for USA and Canadian TV, for Procter & Gamble, now in its 8th year.

Other well known tv commercials voiced by Tony include John West Salmon,
Guinness, Dolland and Aithison, Britvic AME, "William and Mary" television series, Murphys Beer, The Sunday Times series, Lifescan Europe,and New Bloo Fusions for jeys, amongst many others.

Tony was a member of The Abbey Theatre school of acting. He made his professional stage debut in a production of "Romeo and Juliet" at the Gate Theatre Dublin, directed and produced by Hilton Edwards and Micheál MacLiammóir.

Tony went on to play many roles throughout his theatre career, including the title roles of "Hamlet" and "Macbeth", Polonius in "Hamlet", Salerio in "The Merchant of Venice", Marcellus in "Hamlet", Thomas Becket in "Murder in the Cathedral", Eilif in "Mother Courage and Her Children", Roat in "Wait Until Dark",Estragon in "Waiting for Godot", Prince Escalus in "Romeo and Juliet",
King Henry II in "Becket", Ebenezer Scrooge in the musical "Scrooge!",
King Henry VIII in "A Man for All Seasons", and Bill Sikes in "Oliver!".

Tony played the notorious killer and grave robber William Burke in a Dylan Thomas adaptation of Burke and Hare, "The Doctor and The Devils", directed by Roger Redfarn. Tony also played Professor Hurst of the University of Padua opposite Keith Michell in the title role, in "The Artisans Angel", the story of Bernardino Ramazzini, directed by Keith Michell.

Tony has appeared in television shows such as "The Bill", "Love Hurts", "Moonfleet", "Shoot to Kill" (as Sgt Montgomary), "Brookside", "London's Burning", and "McCallum", amongst others. Tony acted as teacher I, Mr. Mortimer alongside his son-in-law Todd Carty in his legendary role as Tucker Jenkins in "Grange Hill". Tony played various guest roles in "The Bill", five episodes in all, in the original half hour show.

Tony continues to voice many TV commercials and narrations on world wide television and cinema. Upcoming tv and films written by Clarkin, "The Vigilentes", "The Chase", "The Invincibles", and "The Adventures of Junior Ant and Junior Grasshopper" will be produced by his daughter, actress/writer and film producer Dina Clarkin, for Swordfish Productions. Radio productions include "Pendennis" for the BBC, where Tony voices many characters in various dramas.

Tony can be heard daily at Somerset House, where he narrated The Gilbert Collection. Tony voiced the story of golf, "Past Masters Golf Champions", now released on dvd. Tony has also voiced cartoons for tv and films, such as "The Cyclops" and "The Global Bears" for Poseidon Films, and various characters, including the pig farmer in "Werzog", for German TV. The BBC tv documentary series "Blood of the Vikings" had various characters voiced by Tony Clarkin. Other narration work included the story of The London Symphony Orchestra for BBC4 TV, and their move from the Barbican Centre to St Luke's renovated church.

Tony appeared on "This Is Your Life" in the episode featuring his son-in-law Todd Carty. Tony has recently played a Judge in "First" for Disruptive Films, winner of the Audi Channel Reel Talent Award 2007. Tony is presently at work on his one man show "Voices You May Know and Don't Know" and continues to write film scripts and children's stories for future production. Tony was the voice of the famous Victorian Explorer Richard Burton in "To The Ends Of The Earth" for BBC TV.
