Judith Potter

Judith Marjorie Potter (born 1942) was made a High Court Judge in New Zealand in 1997.

Justice Potter graduated from the University of Auckland in 1965, and went on to become a senior partner at law firm, Kensington Swan. She is the former President of the Auckland District Law Society and the New Zealand Law Society.

In 2007 she made headlines when she jailed website editor Vince Siemer for his continual breaches of a High Court injunction.

In 2008, Justice Potter was again in the news for aborting an attempted murder trial to honour her committment made many months earlier to attend a law conference overseas, followed by sabbatical leave. The trial had run over twice as long as expected because counsel under-estimated how long it would take to hear the case, according to the Ministry of Justice.
