ome Reviews

PERDIKA PAMPHLETS:

(on "N.") "Disjunctive, airily arranged... There are echoes of Eliot here... a sense of anguish and displacement.... there's a pleasure to be had in all these glimpses of fleeting scenes, also a sense of humour and an engaging quality that lifts the poems and suggests Potamis may well be on an interesting journey." [http://www.shearsman.com/pages/editorial/reviews2007/jm_pamph.html]

(on "Catullus") "Light, skipping, well-turned, and knowing... as intoxicated as ever by their invitations to love and their perennial wisdom about women and desire." [http://www.shearsman.com/pages/editorial/reviews2007/jm_pamph.html]

TORCH OF VENUS. "This is a sequence of poems that seems to record the course of an actual relationship, but it’s not quite as simple as that. The context and tone changes, sometimes rapidly (at one point he sounds almost medieval, talking about “withy bed and open mere”, the next he’s in Starbucks), and there are all sorts of allusions, particularly to Venus, both as the evening star and the goddess of love. It’s not always easy to grasp, but it works wonderfully well." "Matt Merritt (Sphinx 7)" [http://happenstancepress.co.uk/joomla/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=118&Itemid=37]

CATULLUS. "Petrucci's versions are vibrant and up to date, as relevant to life in the 21st century AD as to that in 1st century BC... buy it." ("Sphinx 4.)" [http://www.mariopetrucci.com/catullus.htm]

CATULLUS. "Collapses the fabric of Catullus and translator altogether, leaving us to witness a pencil-beam into a vast, still universality of expression." [http://intercapillaryspace.blogspot.com/2006/09/mario-petrucci-catullus.html]

MALLARME. "Mallarmé is eleven poems with facing originals. After the 'Toast' we get 'Apparition', rendered in lovely half-rhymes." [http://intercapillaryspace.blogspot.com/2007/02/gardens-of-this-star-three-new-mallarm.html]
