Donald Post (March 14, 1902 – November 17, 1979) is dubbed by many as The Godfather of Halloween for creating and selling some of the first latex masks, which are still commonly used in the entertainment industry today. His family has been making masks for generations and he is well known for making the 1975 Captain James Kirk mask, which would later be altered slightly, painted, and used in Halloween, becoming the infamous Michael Myers mask.
Legacy
He and his company Don Post Studios are most famous for creating rubber masks for commercial sale and use in movies, including the Star Wars and Halloween film series. The company also produces some of the only Pinhead masks. They also produce rarer masks of the classic Cenobites from the Hellraiser franchise. The company is currently owned by the Paper Magic Group, which makes many other masks and props.
