Anirban

Anirban

Anirban is a male Hindu name used by Bengalis and Assamese, two different sub-ethnic groups in India. It is generally used as a first name. In Sanskrit, "Anirban" means 'the flame that never burns out'. It is pronounced as "Aw-neer-baan". Virtually all of the people named 'Anirban' have their roots in the state of West Bengal and Assam, two states in the Eastern and North-Eastern parts of India. It is considered to be one of the top most used names in both the states. The name is also very common amongst Bengali Hindus of Bangladesh.

The antonym of this word is 'Nirban' meaning 'creation' or 'inauguration'. 'Nirban' is also a male name, although it is very rare, when compared to 'Anirban'.

There is no female variant of this name.
