Suzanne Weyn is an American author, born in Flushing, New York on July 6, 1955. She primarily writes children's science fiction and fantasy novels. Though she has written over fifty novels and short stories, she is best known for The Bar Code Tattoo and Bar Code Rebellion. The Bar Code Tattoo has been translated into German hard cover and in 07 was nominated for the prestgious Jugendliteraturepreis for youth literature given by the German government. It was also an 07 Nevada Library nominee for Young Adult literature and American Library Assoc. 05 Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers. Kliatt online review called it "A great book."

Biography

Her childhood was spent on Long Island and in and around New York City. She enjoyed theatre, literature, and art throughout high school and college. She graduated from the State University of New York at Binghamton in 1977. Following college, she worked as an editor of teen magazines at Starlog Press before starting her writing career. She has been an editor at Scholastic, Inc.

She has written several series for teen girls including the "Makeover Club," "Baker's Dozen series and the popular "Forever Angels," series.

Weyn's other novels for young people include "My Brother, the Ghost" and "South Beach Sizzle", which was written with Diana Gonzalez. She has also contributed three original fairy tale retellings to the Once Upon a Time...(book series) from Simon and Schuster. These are: The Night Dance: a Retelling of The Twelve Dancing Princesses; Water Song: A Retelling of The Frog Prince; and The Crimson thread: A Retelling of Rumplestiltskin.

Personal life

Her parents are Theodore and Jacqueline Weyn, respectively a pharmacist and artist. She married William Gonzalez on May 15, 1986 and they have two daughters. She is a member of the Fourth Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship of New York.

She has worked at New York University and City College of New York as a teacher of expository, children's, and business writing. She has a Masters of Science in Teaching Adolescents from Pace University.
