Lee Tae-Hyun, born January 17, 1975 in Korea, was a dominant ssireum fighter and later mixed martial artist. His ssireum record was outstanding with 472 wins, which is still best overall winning record in Korean ssireum history.

Professional career

Lee made his professional ssireum debut in August, 1993 joining Chunggu pro-ssireum club. He was already expected to be an outstanding athlete before his debut since after showeing potential as an amateur player. From participating in Chunggu ssireum club to declaring his retirement from ssireum, he recorded 472 wins (the most winning record in Korean pro-ssireum history) and 158 losses. Because of his winning record he received the honorable nickname "The crown prince of the sand-ground" (referring to the ssireum match field).

MMA

After the retirement from ssireum, Lee, who was originally determined to go on academic way as a College lecturer, announced his debut in MMA making a contract with PRIDE. He made his MMA debut on September 10, 2006, at PRIDE Openweight GP 2006, against Ricardo Morais, a behemoth Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter. At the beginning of the fight, Lee displayed his takedown-skills derived from his original ssireum background but ended up running out of stamina after Morais mounted his own offence.
