Madeira cake

Madeira cake

Madeira cake ( _pt. Bolo Inglês; literally, "English Cake") is a popular Portuguese traditional type of English cake, from the Madeira Islands.

Rectangular in shape and with the appearance of a small loaf, the cake was traditionally served with Madeira wine (19th century), but it is more common now for it to be served with tea. Madeira wine may sometimes be added to the cake during baking.
