Arthur's Stone, Herefordshire [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/13067] is a Neolithic chambered tomb dating from 3,700 BC - 2,700 BC and is situated on the ridge line of a hill overlooking both the Golden Valley, Herefordshire [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/154980] and the Wye Valley Herefordshire.

Location

It is located between Dorstone and Bredwardine between Hereford and Hay-on-Wye at Ordnance Survey gbmapping|SO318431.

Description

A large capstone [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/45960] rests on nine uprights and there is a curved entrance passageway.

The mound was aligned north-south and was originally approx. 25 metres in length with a south facing entrance.

The mound is virtually completely eroded and the capstone is broken with a large section fallen from its underside.

The site is defined and protected by a wooden fence [http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/383866] .

The site is seen as a northerly outlier of the well known Severn-Cotswold tomb Group of chambered tombs and one of five Neolithic tombs in the local area.
