The Government of Mauritius approved the setting up of the University of Technology, Mauritius (UTM) in January 2000 and The University of Technology, Mauritius Act was proclaimed on 21 June 2000.

The initial phase of the project consisted in the merging of the MIPAM and the SITRAC Ltd. These three Schools, namely School of Business Informatics and Software Engineering, School of Public Sector Policy and Management and School of Sustainable Development Science became operational since September 2000.

The Board of Governors is headed by its President, Dr S Reddi. S K Babooa is the Registrar of the University.

The University of Technology, Mauritius has the determination to become one of the leading tertiary education institutions of the region. UTM is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities. The building of the new campus near Moka in the coming years will enable the UTM to increase its number of students, the number of programmes offered and provide better facilities.

The university is currently located at La Tour Koenig, Pointe-aux-Sables, Mauritius.

chool of Business Informatics and Software Engineering

The School of Business Informatics and Software Engineering is considered as the leading Software Engineering and Business Informatics institution on the island and the region. It aims at helping the country create the necessary IT professionals to work in the Mauritian Cyber Island and the region.

Courses offered by the School of Business Informatics and Software Engineering are of a good standard and is envisaged to be of a high standard within the coming years.The two principal degree courses that attract the most student applicants are the BSc(Hons) Business Information Systems and BSc(Hons) Software Engineering. To meet a high level of quality and acceptance the programmes are really toughened to create a high level of knowledge and understanding for the ITES sector. Many more interesting programmes exists.

chool of Public Sector Policy and Management

The School of Public Sector Policy & Management (SOPSPAM) has a clear vision to be a leading Management School in Mauritius and the region. It delivers quality education, training, research and consultancy in key areas of Public Policy and Management, Public Administration, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Business Administration, Banking and International Finance and Communication. Presently the School has more than 700 students enrolled on its full-time and part-time programmes which are delivered by more than 70 qualified full-time and part-time academic staff.

The School's staff are outward-looking and have developed strong links with the local and national business and management communities, as well as with foreign institutes of international repute. These communities reciprocate through their enthusiastic support for the School which has a strong culture of sharing. The range of formal and informal opportunities for interchange contributes to encouraging interaction and mutual support.

chool of Sustainable Development Science

The School of Sustainable Development Science caters for very specific areas of the Mauritian economy such as Tourism, Sustainable Development and Environmental Sciences. An MOU has also been signed with the Hotel School of Mauritius for UTM students to benefit from their facilities for practical sessions. In-company training, especially in hotels is also part of the curriculum. The School aims at producing graduates to work in the sustainable economic, social and environmental sectors of Mauritius.
