Älvängen (earlier "Elfängen") is a locality with 3,986 (2005) inhabitants situated in Ale Municipality, Västra Götaland County, Sweden. It is located some 30 kilometers to the north of Gothenburg. Älvängen is also called "Ale City".

Älvängen was the hometown of the painter and writer Ivar Arosenius.

The "P A Carlmarks rope factory" was located to Älvängen. Today, there is a museum in the old factory locals that shows the rope productions in the early beginning of the 20'st century. The museum also produced the rope for the East Indiaman Götheborg.
