Charleston County School of the Arts (SOA) is a public magnet school located in North Charleston, South Carolina in the United States.[1] Created in 1995 by Rose Maree Myers, who also founded the Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School, SOA serves more than 1,000 students in grades 6 through 12. Admission to SOA is based upon a competitive audition in one of eight majors: creative writing, dance, instrumental band, piano, string orchestra, theater arts, visual arts, and vocal music. James Reinhart became the third principal of the school in July 2008.

Joseph Clarke and Debbie Benson teach piano. Clarke teaches jazz while Benson teaches classical and theory. Suzanne K. Reed and Basil Kerr teach instrumental band. Reed teaches middle school, and Kerr teaches high school wind ensemble and jazz band. Theater arts are taught by George Younts and Megan Link. Visual arts are taught by Marie Nichols and Chris Moore. Vocal is taught by Robin Rogers and Erin Slenk. Creative Writing is taught by Francis Hammes, Sean Swagellato, and Rosemarie Miles. String orchestra is taught by Sarah Fitzgerald and Susan Mears. Dance is taught by Ashlee Pitman, Linda Cline and Meredith Shaver. Cecilia Slowinski was a dance teacher at SOA. She died in 2010 of cancer. Kristen Lucas was also a dance teacher at the school, but moved out of state after the 2009-2010 school year.

In January 2010, SOA moved from its original campus to its new facility which features separate high and middle school wings, arts facilities, a cafeteria, a media center, an administrative center, a gymnasium, and the Rose Maree Myers Theater for the Performing Arts, which opened separately in April 2010.

In August 2010, SOA was joined on its campus by Academic Magnet High School.
