The UAW-Ford National Programs Center is a tall building in Hart Plaza, Downtown Detroit, Michigan. The high-rise building was constructed in 1948, and stands at 41 meters (135 ft) in height, with 10 above-ground floors. It was designed in the international architectural style, with its marble-faced walls and glass windows being held up on the same plane, with a flat roof. The narrow northwest wall has a 30-foot high eagle sculpture carved in relief over a commemorative incscription, as a memorial to soldiers and civilians killed in war. The "Veterans Memorial Building" (as it is also called) was dedicated as a war memorial on June 11, 1950.
Inside the building is a 450-seat theatre-style conference center, with a 200-seet lecture hall. Both of which are on the ground floor of this memorial building. This building also contains two lobbies, one of which is at the back of the building along Hart Plaza, and the other lobby is on the second floor at the Jefferson Avenue entrance. The difference in height between the two lobbies is 22 feet, 11 inches. Its parapet on the main roof deck rises a total height of 4 feet, 3 inches.
In January of 1995, the building underwent a renovation, and was completed on October 1, 1997.
This building stands between Cobo Hall and Hart Plaza, and lies directly across West Jefferson Avenue from 150 West Jefferson, and is easily visible from Windsor, Ontario, across the Detroit River, on which it also faces.
