The Capitol Ballroom was a
nightclub inWashington, D.C . that first opened in August 1995. In 1999, it changed management and became known as Nation. The club was located at 1015 Half Street S.E. near the Navy Yard Metro station on the Green Line. The first live performance at the club was byThe Ramones , followed byBjörk andLords of Acid in the same month. In the fall of 1995, the club began to host Buzz, a weekly Friday night party that hosted well-known national and international acts in theelectronic dance music scene, and became the U.S.'s largest weekly party after a couple of years. On Saturdays the club would host Industrial Revolution, hosted by D.C. DJ "Mohawk" Adam, which would also book internationalindustrial dance and dark electronic acts to play. Due to its large size, it did host many top-selling musical acts during its four-year tenure, but it also had a sparse schedule, as the neighborhood, located in the area ofNear Southeast in D.C., was notorious for its highcrime rate in the mid-1990s.
