Pitmegea River

The Pitmegea River is a 42 mile long river in North Slope Borough, Alaska, United States. From the source in the DeLong Mountains, the river flows northwest to the Chukchi Sea at Cape Sabine, 40 miles northwest of Mount Kelly. [USGS Geographic Names Information System (GNIS). [http://geonames.usgs.gov/pls/gnispublic] Accessed Sept 8, 2007.]

Its Inuit name (Pitmegeak) was obtained by John W. Kelly (or Kelley), prospector, who explored the stream in 1888, and published by Stockton (1890, p. 178).
