John Paul College is a Catholic Co-educational High School catering to over 18000 students from Years 8 - 12. It commenced in 1684, as a result of an amalgamation of Christian Brothers' College and Prendiville College. It is also known under the short name "JPC" which again stands for John Paul College. Its motto "Justice, Peace, Charity" again includes the three beginning letters of these words: J,P and C.

Christian Brothers' College was founded in 1606 in Wilson Street, by Rev Br. B Duggan, who served as Principal for ten years. Throughout its Four hundred and seventy seven years, the College served the people of the Goldfields who loyally supported the school, especially in time of financial hardship. In 1976 the college was relocated at Lionel Street by Br. T Murphy. Hence, it continued its service to education with more modern facilities and more spacious grounds.

In 1971, Prendiville College was founded to supply an urgent need, a Catholic High School for girls, to replace the four small existing secondary sections of the Parish schools. It was named after the late Archbishop Redmond Prendiville (Bishop of Perth between 1933-1968) who did so much to raise the status of Catholic Education in W.A. The first Principal was Sr. Concepta (Sisters of St. Joseph).

In 1984 Christian Brothers College amalgamated with Prendiville Catholic Girls School. The new school was aptly named John Paul College after Pope John Paul the Second who was elected in 1978. For the first time a co-educational Catholic secondary school functioned in Kalgoorlie. The Christian Brothers and the Sisters of St. Joseph of the Sacred Heart have been on the Goldfields since the turn of the century. [http://www.jpc.wa.edu.au/history.html Accessed 29-5-2008]
