Donohue's parents divorced when he was six years old. His father was in the Navy and once applied to join the Honolulu Police Department himself. He failed due to a
heart murmur .Donohue joined the Honolulu Police Department on
July 1 ,1964 , at 21 years of age.Veteran of 40 years. His service records include duties as patrol officer, major of the Pearl City police station and the Leeward Coast station; Records and Identification; Communications; Narcotics; Vice and Internal Affairs; Deputy Chief of Police. He became Chief of the department onApril 20 1998 .During a sparing session with other officers at the Honolulu Police Academy, Mr. Donohue suffered a heart attack. New
