Immigrant Absorption Minister of Israel

Immigrant Absorption Minister of Israel

The Immigrant Absorption Minister of Israel ( _he. שר לקליטת עלייה, "Sar leKlitat Aliyah"), known until 1951 as the Minister of Immigration ( _he. שר העלייה, "Sar HaAliya"), is the political head of the Israeli Ministry of Immigrant Absorption and a minor position in the Israeli cabinet.

In co-ordination with local authorities, the Ministry is responsible for new immigrants (Olim) for three weeks after they arrive. It helps the Olim find employment and accommodation and gives advice on education, planning and social issues, as well as setting up the "immigrant basket" of benefits (such as tax breaks, grants etc.).

There is also occasionally a Deputy Minister.
