Timber Jerry is an American rock band known for their energetic and interactive live performances. Formed in 2000, the band's three original members performed together for the first time at Herrel's Renaissance Cafe in downtown Allston, Massachusetts. Their music has elements of a wide variety of genres including rock, jazz, and funk sounds. Although the band no longer performs live, the members continue to collaborate on studio recordings, exchanging their work and ideas over the Internet.

History

The beginning (2000)

Timber Jerry was formed in 2000 by singer-songwriters/guitarists Rick Breslin and Jim McNamee and bassist Tom Kachoris. For their first gig, a small acoustic set at an ice cream shop in Allston Rock City, the band played their folky/funky original songs to a capacity crowd of 14. Jam sessions in Kachoris' basement led to gigs at local Lowell, Massachusetts bars and clubs, and a monthly residency at Culpepper's in North Andover, Massachusetts.

Growing pains (2001)

While gaining popularity through their quirky and marathon live sets (including a 5-hour St. Patrick's Day show on March 17, 2001), Jon Ulman joined the band as the drummer. In addition to ultimate dancibility, the band (now with full rhythm section) began to book gigs at acclaimed Boston area venues such as Harper's Ferry, The Middle East, and The Kendall Cafe. During this time, the band also recorded its full-length debut, "Plasma Treat" at Powerhouse Studio in Lunenburg, Massachusetts.

Maturity and change (2002)

By 2002, the band's folky/funky hybrid sound matured into an alternative rock sound fusing influences such as Pearl Jam, The Dave Matthews Band, and local indie heroes Dispatch. This evolution of style and their energetic live performances resulted in larger crowds at more popular venues including an opening spot for New England jamband giant Entrain at the Wachusett Mountain Brew Festival. During this time, the band entered Powerhouse Studio once again to record "Audio Cinema", a unique recording of songs connected by real-life sounds and scenes. By the fall of 2002, Timber Jerry would hold their last live performance (joined by Producer Stuart Covington and Bassist Tom Bianchi).

Current and future plans

Rick Breslin and Jim McNamee continue to collaborate on music under the Timber Jerry umbrella of "superfun jumprock" songs. The two songwriters have been in and out of the studio since October, 2006 to the present time.

Music

Timber Jerry's music can be best described as "punchy, upbeat alternative rock" with an emphasis on vocal harmonies and sing-along choruses. Several talented Boston area musicians have contributed to the Timber Jerry sound, allowing the band to expand their songs into a style that borders on the "jamband" classification.

Concerts

The greatest reasons for Timber Jerry's popularity and modest success during their career was their live performances and incessant gigging. The band built a following in the New England area by playing upbeat rock renditions of popular 80's songs such as "Sexual Healing" and "Bust A Move".
