Seabury

Seabury

Seabury is a residential area of Malahide, County Dublin, Ireland.

Location

Seabury is bounded (approximately) by Broadmeadow Estuary to the north, Barrack Bridge to the east and the Malahide-Swords Road to the south. It comprises residential housing (c. 900 homes built in the late 1980s and early 1990s), and a Roman Catholic church, plus a medical centre, small supermarket, take-away food outlet, and a hair and beauty salon.

Currently under construction at Estuary Road, is a semi-sheltered housing scheme for the elderly comprising 37 dwelling units and a Community Building [ [http://www.fingalcoco.ie/minutes/meeting_doc.aspx?id=9383] ] . The site was left by a local resident to the Diocesan Trust for the specific purpose of providing homes for the elderly. The Diocesan Trust passed the site on to the Society of St. Vincent De Paul to develop the project in partnership with Fingal County Council. Around one-third of the units will be allocated to Malahide residents.

Fingal County Council has also granted planning permission for a residential scheme adjacent to the semi-sheltered housing scheme. The proposed scheme will be located at a site currently occupied by a derelict cottage. It will consist of 8 apartments split among 3 separate blocks of 3 storeys each.

Local Authority

Seabury is located within Fingal and a number of Fingal councillors are Seabury residents.

Amenities

Currently, Seabury has a children's playground, and playing pitches for soccer, rugby and GAA sports. Swords sailing club and Malahide rugby club are also located on Estuary Road (see map).

Mini-Pitch

Development of an FAI soccer Mini-Pitch at Seabury Green [ [http://www.fingalcoco.ie/minutes/meeting_doc.aspx?id=1527] ] has been approved by Fingal County Council. Measuring approximately 250 square metres (1 tennis court size), this will be an all-weather facility which, according to the council, "will facilitate not only football, but tennis, basketball, volleyball and other suitable sporting activities [and] will be available to the local community free of charge."

Broadmeadow Orbital Route

Fingal Councillors have also voted unanimously to support the development of an orbital footpath and cycle route around the Broadmeadow estuary [ [http://www.fingalcoco.ie/minutes/meeting_doc.aspx?id=225] ] , part of which will run along the estuary shoreline at Seabury Green. It will include a boardwalk/bridge across Cave's Marsh which is located on the south shore of the Broadmeadow inner estuary where the Gaybrook Stream enters the sea. This area was also the site of a Viking longport (long boat harbour and settlement) dated to between the eighth and twelfth centuries [ [http://www.malahideheritage.com/Historical%20Guide%20-%20Part%20II.htm] ] .
