Tequesta is an incorporated upscale village in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,273 at the 2000 census. According to the U.S. Census Bureau's 2004 estimates, the village had a population of 5,828. Tequesta is known for being a very beautiful area that has become a big vacation spot.

Geography

Tequesta is located at coor dms|26|57|39|N|80|5|48|W|city (26.960867, -80.096620)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 5.7 km² (2.2 mi²). 4.5 km² (1.8 mi²) of it is land and 1.2 km² (0.5 mi²) of it (20.81%) is water.

Most of the village is located on the mainland, but there are two part of the village on Jupiter Island, which are divided by the county-owned Coral Cove Park.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 5,273 people, 2,344 households, and 1,521 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,163.4/km² (3,013.9/mi²). There were 2,834 housing units at an average density of 625.3/km² (1,619.8/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 97.97% White (95.8% were Non-Hispanic White,) [cite web |url=http://www.muninetguide.com/states/florida/municipality/Tequesta.php |title=Demographics of Tequesta, FL |publisher=MuniNetGuide.com |accessdate=2007-11-12] 0.47% African American, 0.09% Native American, 0.70% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 0.13% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 2.43% of the population.

There were 2,344 households out of which 22.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 55.7% were married couples living together, 7.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 35.1% were non-families. 29.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 17.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.22 and the average family size was 2.75.

In the village the population was spread out with 19.1% under the age of 18, 4.0% from 18 to 24, 22.9% from 25 to 44, 27.1% from 45 to 64, and 26.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 48 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.3 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $58,825, and the median income for a family was $72,683. Males had a median income of $51,563 versus $31,855 for females. The per capita income for the village was $34,974. About 1.6% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under age 18 and 6.8% of those age 65 or over.
