Cultured neural networks

Cultured neural networks

Cultured neural networks refer to groups of interconnected nerve cells living "in vitro". Such networks have been shown to be histiotypic; they exhibit physiological, pharmacological, and electrical properties similar to the brain tissue they came from. A growing research area is the use of cultured biological neural networks in the place of artificial neural networks. Little is though known about the computational capacity of such neural cultures and how to interface to them in order to make effective use of that capacity. Such cultures can potentially be utilised in order to perform useful tasks.
