Russian Nanotechnology Corporation

Russian Nanotechnology Corporation (Russian: Роснанотех, "Rosnanotekh") is a Russian non-profit state owned corporation, which has been created according to the law "On the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation" proposed by several members of the United Russia party on June 52007, and passed its first reading in the State Duma on June 14 [ [http://tchirkounov.ru/laws/?unit=523 Full text in Russian] ] and final reading on July 4. The upper house, the Federation Council, approved it on July 6. The corporation is expected to ensure interaction between government, business, and scientists in the implementation of state policy in nanotechnology and the nano-industry. It offers numerous benefits under tax and commercial legislation, while at the same time Rosnanotekh is free to operate in virtually any commercial venture it likes.

In February 2007 the Kurchatov Institute won the tender to be the main organization coordinating efforts in nanotechnology in Russia. It is not clear what were other participants of the tender. On April 182007, President Vladimir Putin took part in a nanotechnology conference hosted by the institute and announced that "nanotechnology is an activity for which this government will not spare money".Mike Treder [http://ieet.org/index.php/IEET/more/treder20070505/ Russia and Nanotechnology] ] He elaborated on this matter in his annual address to the Parliament of Russia on April 26, declaring that the state is going to allocate more than US$ 5 bn by this year end [http://en.rian.ru/russia/20070621/67613172.html Russia to allocate $7.7 bln for nanotechnology until 2015] ] to the Russian Nanotechnology Corporation and urging to pass necessary legislation as soon as possible.
