Edward D. Hays

Edward Dixon Hays (April 28, 1872 - July 25, 1941) was a U.S. Representative from Missouri.

Born on a farm near Oak Ridge, Missouri, Hays attended the public schools.He was graduated from the Oak Ridge High School in 1889 and from the Cape Girardeau State Normal School in 1893.He taught school until 1895.He moved to Jackson, Missouri, in 1895.He studied law.He was admitted to the bar in 1896 and commenced practice in Jackson, Missouri.He served as mayor of Jackson 1903-1907. Probate judge of Cape Girardeau County 1907-1918.He was an unsuccessful Republican nominee for circuit judge in 1916.He moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, in 1915 and continued the practice of law.

Hays was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-sixth and Sixty-seventh Congresses (March 4, 1919-March 3, 1923).He was an unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1922 to the Sixty-eighth Congress.He resumed the practice of his profession in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Trial lawyer for the Department of Justice in the Court of Claims 1923-1925.He was appointed valuation attorney for the Interstate Commerce Commission in 1925 and served until 1933.He continued the practice of law in Washington, D.C., and resided in Bethesda, Maryland, where he died on July 25, 1941.He was interred in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Washington, D.C.
