Patrick White (born January 20, 1989, in Grand Rapids, Minnesota) is a collegiate ice hockey center currently playing for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association. He is a prospect of the the Vancouver Canucks, drafted 25th overall in the first round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

White played four seasons of high school hockey in the Minnesota State High School League with Grand Rapids High School of his hometown. He was drafted twice by junior hockey teams – the Seattle Thunderbirds of the Western Hockey League in 2004 and the Lincoln Stars of the United States Hockey League in 2005 – but chose to play for his high school instead.

After leading Grand Rapids to the state championship in 2005–06, he scored 38 points in 17 games and captured the 7AA State Championship with Grand Rapids in 2007, his senior year. He was subsequently named the the Associated Press Minnesota High School Hockey Player of the Year and was chosen to the AP and St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State First Teams. Following White's championship year, he was chosen 25th overall by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. Upon being drafted, he joined the University of Minnesota's Golden Gophers for the 2007-08 season. He finished his freshman year with 6 goals and 4 assists in 45 games played.

International play

White first competed for the United States in the 2005 U17 Five Nations Tournament in Huttwil, Switzerland. Competing against the Czech Republic, Germany, Switzerland and Slovakia, White halped the United States to a first place finish going 3-0-1.

Two years later, White was named to the United States' U18 squad at the 2007 IIHF World U18 Championships in Finland, capturing silver. The U.S. lost the gold medal to Russia 6-5 in the gold medal game.
