4 December 1890 inBarrhead ,East Renfrewshire ) was a Scottish footballer who played for "Belgrave FC", "Balmoral United FC", "Ripley Athletic FC", Bolton Wanderers, Sunderland, Manchester City, Chorley, "Ashton National FC" and the Scotland national team.Donaldson played as an Outside-Forward and won six international caps. He scored one goal at international level - against England in April 1920. All of his caps were earned while playing for Bolton Wanderers. Donaldson was signed by Bolton in 1912 from Ripley Athletic and made his debut against Chelsea on
7 September 1912 . He made a total of 147 appearances for Bolton over six seasons, scoring 6 goals.Donaldson very nearly played for England before being capped by Scotland. While heading for an English international trial match in Sunderland on
